I was one of those emo-types for a while in high school. That is embarrassing to admit. However, one of the things that I taught myself from my thoughts on darkness and sadness is that the only thing to fear about death is how you'll die -- like, I don't want a painful death. I fear the pain much more than the death. Because, once you're dead, you're just... dead. But, of course, part of you will go living on for eternity.
I just finished rereading Slaughterhouse Five. One of Vonnegut's themes in the book is time. He speaks of every moment being eternal, so after death, you will always live on because all of your moments occur simultaneously and infinitely. Cool concept.
