My Brain Is Like Unto A Dead Thing

I am working most of this week, beginning today, in which I spent 5 hours in an auditorium helping to photograph 19 classes of rambunctious sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. It was loud and hectic, and I worked hard to create pockets of order in the midst of the chaos.

I was in my element.

I'm sure you will forgive my lack of brainpower and energy, considering the fact that I rose at the unseemly hour of 5 AM, was dealing with rush hour traffic two hours later, and was knee-deep in frantic photographic preparations an hour after that. It's a wonder I am still awake. I want to write in my paper journal, but that will have to wait until I get some sleep.

In spite of this, I summoned enough energy at the end of the afternoon to travel to Manhattan and pick up the first of my experiments with black & white film. Because of the limitations of my scanner (which may be why I had to do almost exactly the same Lightroom development to the film scans that I have to do to my RAW files to get what I consider a good image), I am not sure if I am impressed with it vs. my 5D. Next time I just may pay to have the lab do high-res scans of the negatives for me, until I can afford to upgrade my scanner.
