I think it has an opt-out feature. You can see who visits you in exchange for showing up when you visit other people, but if you choose, you can be invisible when you visit other people, which also means you can't see who visits you. So I personally think it has a limited application.
I opted out, not because I want to be invisible, but because if I get started looking at who has come and read my journal, I will get all obsessive and touchy about it.
Don't work there, but I am now the proud owner three Lotus original photographs! Hubs loves them, too (which is fortunate since they WILL be on the wall in the study. *hugs* and THANK YOU! :)

LJ is supposed to be introducing a feature called Tracks where you can see who visits your journal but its very slow in coming
