Ferry Ride

Thank you. That second one is a favorite of mine, too. It was one of those inspired moments where my camera was snapping before my consciousness had fully engaged.

I was riding the ferry with a friend, and she chuckled and said, "How can you take pictures sitting down? Are you being lazy?" I grinned and explained that when you are photographing little people, you need to be down at their level. For example, the first one would not have been nearly as powerful, if I had been looking down at them. She saw what I meant when we disembarked and passed the same group on our way down the gangplank; since she is six feet tall, their heads barely reached her knees!

I shoot tons of pics sitting down, squatting, or laying down. What I found amusing while on the Yellowstone trip was that Lewis (who is 6'2) and I would shoot similar things from opposite angles. I'd get lower and shoot across or up. He'd get high or shoot holding the camera above his head, looking down.
