This afternoon we took Volusia to the Bronx for a cookout. One of T's coworkers gave a cookout at a friend's house and invited us. The weather was sunny and warm, so we loaded up the bike and took off.

T and Her Co-Worker
I like this photo of T. She looks so cool and mellow.

A Little Slice of Heaven
The gathering was held in this lovely yard. T and I loved the setup. A screened-in gazebo graced the deck, and indoor-outdoor speakers pumped mellow Neo-Soul music to the far reaches of the garden. I dream of having a private oasis like this right behind my house.

The Grill Master, Hard At Work
There was plenty of food. Between hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, ribs, peas and rice, and jerk chicken, there was no need for anyone to go hungry. If that wasn't enough, there were chips, crackers, dip, and Crunch & Munch, plus drinks aplenty. We had to pass on the vodka lemonade; alcohol and motorcycles do NOT mix. Ever. Period. But we drank lots of fruit juice and didn't feel we were missing out on anything important.

Partygoers
Everyone we met was friendly, especially this guy, who insisted on posing with the grill master's sister. I think we are going to hang out with him again in the near future. He gave off a warm, fun vibe. That is a good thing, as we plan to play matchmaker and introduce him to a mutual friend. :-)
Now we are at home, no thanks to the megalomaniacs on the highway. Other than that, the ride was wonderful both ways.
From the Dept. of "I Can Ride a Big Girl Bike": before we first left home, I took the bike for a spin through the neighborhood for about 5 minutes. My stopping and shifting have gotten much smoother. My turns are still a little wobbly as I learn how much throttle to give depending on the circumstances, but those are smoothing out, as well. Even the car that cut me off while I was turning on a hill didn't phase me; I saw him coming, predicted his path, and instinctively applied my defensive driving skills to put a safe distance between him and me. I'm getting more confidence in my ability to drive safely, even in traffic. This is a good thing.
