Sailboat in New York Harbor
26 August 2008
August has been quite a month for me. I successfully completed my first commission, and my clients were thrilled with my work. I was honored when they commissioned me, and pleasing them has boosted my self-confidence. Whenever I think of my photos gracing the walls of their West Coast home, I feel...awe is an understatement, but it is the best word I can think of, right now.
When my elementary-school-aged self first began snapping photos, I did not think about selling my work. I just thought it was fun to do what I saw my father doing and have the memories afterwards. These days I still have fun making photos, and I love reliving the memories via my photos. But I also like knowing my photos touch, inspire, or thrill others. That gasp of delight when people see a photo of mine is worth millions.
My clients said when their preschool-aged daughter saw the prints of the images she had selected from my portfolio, she gasped in wonder. I have heard and seen that expression on the faces of small children, before. That is one reason why I do what I do.
