Taken at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 42nd Street. Not only is this cyclist crossing against the light, he is not wearing a helmet. Please, fellow cyclists, be safe out there!
Augh. Jesus. People *do* know that dismounting and crossing as a pedestrian is possible and okay, right? 'Cause if you're going to do something as insane as crossing against the light, doing it on foot at the crosswalk? Much better idea.
We have the suburban version of that here. Riders riding down the center of the street, and wearing dark clothes with few or no reflectors at night. Sometimes riders just appear out of the shadows -- it's scary.
On the other hand, this area is really not at all bike-friendly. It was built around cars, and not only is there little space for riders, but drivers don't seem to give much of a damn about being careful around bikes. I wish we were more bike-oriented. I'd encourage the bandar log to get out and about on their bikes a lot more, but as it is, I really don't think it's all that safe.
