Expectations Versus Desire
Mar. 30th, 2009 10:43 pmThere is a subtle difference between wanting the president to fail and expecting that one to fail, and some people are missing that difference. I and other PUMAs do not want that one to fail, because his failure means more trouble for our country...and lord knows our country has seen enough trouble to last a lifetime. But we expect him to fail, because we saw right from the beginning that he was nowhere near experienced enough to take over the leadership of this country right now. We are not surprised when he blunders and stumbles. We are not shocked when he goes back on his word. We saw this pattern of his when we checked his near-nonexistent political record and watched his behavior during the democratic primaries. It would be great for our country if he did not fail, but we think his success is about as likely as the Loch Ness monster being real. :-)
That is why we did not support him, in the first place.
Furthermore, PUMAs banding together in support of him (even when we have no reason to believe in him) will not help him succeed. Our support of or opposition to him does not affect his abilities or the lack thereof. The only way for him to succeed is for him to be competent in the first place. Blaming PUMAs or Republicans or anyone other than him for his lack of performance is making excuses. If he succeeds or fails, it will be because of him, not because of anyone else.

Date: 2009-03-31 03:21 am (UTC)I can't even tell you the frustration I feel being unable to even stomach the news stations who are all ignoring any objection by American citizens to this puppet's (he could do nothing without the Democrats in Congress and he's little more than their talking head) insane desire to enslave the population with oppressive taxation and the destabilization of our economy with debt more than the cumulative terms of all 43 presidents preceding him.
My big "thing" is term limits. Its the only way we can stop this insanity and take our country back from the politicians. They need to know Congress isn't a career and if they aren't there to serve us like they are elected to do, then we will vote them out and keep doing that until we force them to make term limits for Congress (both Senate and House).

Date: 2009-03-31 01:41 pm (UTC)We'll have to write letters (I'm going to draft a couple up and post them on my LJ for folks to copy and paste) to our current Congress representatives demanding that they put in legislation to add Congressional term limits to the Constitution. Amendments (and revocations of which we have only one - prohibition) to the Constitution take the majority vote of Congress (House and Senate) of 75% and it takes 75% of the States to agree*. We have to stipulate that if they ignore the demands of their constituents, we will (and we will encourage everyone we know to) vote them out of office at the next earliest opporunity.
In the meantime, whenever there is an upcoming election in our district to either the House or the Senate, we need to write them letters (and have our family/friends) that state we will only vote for them if they will work to put forth legislation for Congressional term limits.
We have to keep at it and help others see the need to do this - educate them in the need to have a government that works for us, not the other way around - for our sakes, for our children and our families. With term limits, lobbists aren't going to be able to insulate themselves into the lives of Congressmen.
Currently the House of Representatives has terms of office of 2 years and the Senate 6 years. *6* years - no wonder these people are out of touch with us. The drafts I'm going to write will support a term limit of 2 terms for the House and 1 term for the Senate.
