I sent this to my best friend who has a 12-year-old daughter with Aspergers. Thank you for posting this.

You're welcome. I hope there is information in there than can help and even encourage her!

I think it might, especially for dealing with her older years. She views her Aspergers as a challenge, but also in some ways, a gift. You'll never meet anyone who views the world in such a pure way as her daughter. There's right. There's wrong. There's very little in between. And unlike the girl in this article, she seems to have very little concern for what others think of her, which is probably something that would be nice for us all to think.

I wonder how much of the difference in presentation is due to the culture at large, rather than differences in the condition itself.

I am sure a lot of it is nurture, not nature. There are people of both sexes who would express their frustration as violence, but I bet the little girls in that bunch would be more likely to be shamed for it, which would add to their development issues.

That's interesting. My mom could have wrote that about me.

I'm going in for the first battery of tests to see if I'm an Aspie next week. From what I can tell, everything points to yes.

I have a really hard time making and keeping friends, but I really want to have friends...I just don't understand the process.

Boo!

interesting. related the most to 'my life as an earthbound alien' in terms of the testimonials. definitely agree in the ignoring of females on the autism spectrum

That was really interesting. Thanks for sharing it. Asperger's, because it deals with social skills, is a personal interest of mine. I think of it as easy to manage, just place the kid in counseling to teach her the social skills needed.

That one was definitely too interesting to keep to myself.

I am not so sure Asperger's is "easy to manage", as the article seems to say Asperger's is far more complex than delayed social development. Just ask anyone with well-managed Asperger's, and they probably have a long tale to tell of just how difficult it is for them, even after being taught social/coping skills.
