Respect the Fact That Offense/Triggers Are Not Chosen

sophiaserpentia made an excellent post on why it is unhelpful to put someone down for being offended on the internet.

As a feminist and a leftist i get this a lot: the implication that if i find something offensive which they did not -- or especially if it is something they found funny or amusing -- that i am overly sensitive and, if i am so easily offended, maybe i shouldn't be using the internet.

Look, please don't say this to people. It's not helpful.

And you notice how most the time this said it's said to women (by men or women) about something that is misogynist?

Believe it or not, most of my experience has been hearing it from women about issues on which we disagree. Though I admit, I also hear it a lot from men about misogynist things.
