My holly bushes by the house do not have berries. I've heard that there are male and female versions, but only one (I can't remember which) has the berries. Apparently I have the "wrong" one. :-/
Female has the berries. If you think about it a minute, it will make sense: female = major responsibility for physical reproduction. (Not being snarky, just the way biology classifies things in general.)
I don't know why, but that picture is the first time in years that I have looked at any representation of holly without lots of cranky memories. Thank you, wlotus.
I was thinking it was the female that had the berries. Isn't it a male oak tree that produces the acorns, or something crazy like that? I need to brush up on my biology. :-P
And no, not snarky at all. That's the way it is!
Y'know, I don't know how it's possible that I have like eight holly bushes beside my house, and every friggin' one of them must be male (or sterile), because I've never had one single berry in four years. :-(
