If Senator Clinton does not win the Democratic party nomination, I am going to write in her name for president in the general election. (I'll probably leave the Democratic party and register as an independent, too.) I've watched this video about writing in a candidate, but I don't understand how, with multiple columns of candidates, the machine will know which office I intend the write-in candidate to have. Can anyone explain that to me?

(I have not been participating in any political talk here or elsewhere, because I am burnt out and irritated with it all. I know which candidate I believe in, and I am not interested in or impressed with any others. If you have a different preference, please save your arguments for your candidate for your own blog/space. Thanks.)

Are you interested in hearing her talk at Hunter on Wednesday, Feb 20th, in the evening? A friend of mine is one of the hosts of this fundraiser and there are $50 tix available. I'm thinking of going, but should probably decide soon, before the cheapie tix sell out. Let me know if you'd want to go see her in person.

I'd like that, but I'm not dropping $50, right now. (I feel bad I haven't been able to financially support her campaign the way I'd like.) Thanks for letting me know, though!

I don't understand write-in votes, but would vote Senator Clinton in as well if I understood the process. I'll watch the video.

Here you go!

From http://www.vote.nyc.ny.us/voting.html It still sounds pretty confusing to me, but I'd ask the volunteers at the polls for help - it's what they're there for, after all!

# You may vote for a candidate not listed on the ballot by writing in the candidate's name. Locate the button over the column of numbered slots on the left of the voting machine and:
1. For General Election: Depress the button and, while holding it in, open the slot opposite the office for which you wish to write in a candidate's name.
2. For Primary Elections: Depress the button and, while holding it in, open the slot number indicated on the ballot under the office and party for which you wish to write in a candidate's name.
Write the name of your preferred candidate in the slot. A pencil is provided. Cast your vote for other offices in the usual manner.
# When you finish making your selection, leave the levers down and pull the large red handle all the way to the left. The write-in slot will close, the levers will return to their original position and your vote is recorded.

Thanks! If it comes down to it then, yes, I'll ask the poll workers for help.

I've never written in a candidate, before, and I'm quite excited about the possibility of doing so this time, if necessary. Rather than feeling hemmed in and helpless, I can *still* vote my conscience.

I rarely talk about politics myself. I don't put stickers on my car or anything. I also don't like it much when other people ask me who I'm voting for. Sometimes, they're just looking for a fight.
