Today was cool and damp, with misting rain off and on through the afternoon. T and I holed up in Barnes & Noble at Union Square for a couple of hours after an errand on the upper east side. When we headed to the subway, we were surprised to find a freshly-completed sand mandala on the ground!

The work was done by the talented Joe Mangrum.

This mandala took about three hours for him to complete. At the end of the day, he sweeps up the sand and goes on his way. He calls this symbol a reflection of himself and finds the process of creating it meditative.

I'm now following him on Twitter, so I can visit more of his art installations as he creates them.
