Riding A Big Girl Bike

"When you ride a motorcycle," my mother told teenaged me, "you will be an adult living on your own in another state."

Mom lives in New Jersey.

I live in New York.

Today I passed the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic Rider Course and can go to the DMV as soon as tomorrow to exchange my permit and road test waiver for my motorcycle license.

Grats, hon! I remember how amazed I felt when I passed my motorcycle test all those years ago. :) I have to do it again but I'm waiting for real summertime here.

Yippee! My mother said something less about getting my ears pierced--there was always my aunt's bad experience brought up. She got infected, probably from not taking enough care of her ears. I was VERY good about doing what was necessary, and have never had infections.

We practiced on a closed course. Since I was such a new rider, I don't think I would have been able to handle NYC streets well! In fact, before I hit the streets, I will do a lot more practice in parking lots and on the relatively quiet side streets in my neighborhood. Once I feel confident on these side streets, then and ONLY then will I hit the main streets.
