It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Same here. I'm staying registered as Democrat until the Green Party gets a viable party in my state, but I'm going to be a Democrat that will raise as much hell as possible in my party, fighting the power every step of the way. I despise the lot of them at what they did to Hillary and anyone who voted for her. I understand why Hillary is doing what she's doing, she still believes that she can bring the party around to the 21st century. Good on her for trying, but I think it's time to stop wasting my time on the lot of them.

I respect her for doing what she has to do in order to protect her career as she has envisioned it. But I'm with you: I have better things to do with my time.

Would you believe this was my first time hearing that song? I heard it in a video.

Oh, God, my refuge! I need some sanity. Jesus, I just lost a friend over this Obama shit, and I've had people hold that over my head all week----because, you know, nothing says treating other women with respect than voting and supporting some sexist dude and then getting pissed off at them about it.

Having someone choose to no longer read my blog is one thing, but having someone choose to no longer be my friend...that would make me wonder what kind of friend that person really was, in the first place.

I've been taking refuge in the articles and commentary on the PUMA PAC (http://blog.pumapac.org/) and The Confluence (http://riverdaughter.wordpress.com/) sites. I have also been unabashedly deleting and/or freezing comments here. You are far more patient on your blog than I am. I don't want sermons or lectures from people who don't agree; I've heard enough from reading the the blogs of Obama supporters to last me a lifetime. I didn't take my disagreement to their blogs, and I am not allowing any of them to bring their disagreement here.

She insulted me so badly I had to defriend her. I can't take insults like that over...a politician?! Really? It's worth that much? Why are his followers so rabid?

I wonder how many of us have lost a friend because we won't vote for Obama. I almost did, but I "made nice" w/o committing to vote for him.

I don't understand it, either. I know people who are staunch Obama supporters who are polite in their disagreement with me. But there are some who like to use mockery, name-calling, dismissiveness...I can only guess that is how those people usually express strong disagreement, no matter what the topic is. "Agree to disagree" does not enter their vocabulary, and it's a shame. Even Claire McCaskell commented on it in an article in the NYT (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/07/us/politics/07women.html?ex=1370577600&en=18f0a94324dfd9b1&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink):

The key, Ms. McCaskill said, is approaching Mrs. Clinton’s supporters with utmost humility. And, Ms. Backus added, that is not always the strongest suit of the young people who are some of Mr. Obama’s most enthusiastic supporters.

“Not nyeh nyeh nyeh nyeh,” Ms. McCaskill said, making a taunting sound. “We need them very, very badly, and we shouldn’t be able to be afraid to say that we need them.”

McCaskill's acknowledgement after the fact is not going to convince me to forget this travesty--if she really wanted my support, she should have been wooing me months ago, not after rules were bent to anoint her guy--but at least she acknowledges many Obama supporters are wrong to be obnoxious.

I have lost a few blog readers, but I haven't lost any friends. (The two are not the same, in my world.) So far, my friends are more mature than that, thank goodness.

You know what's bad? This is a person I've respected before for her reasonableness, and her attention to the facts, and for Obama, she tossed both aside. Obama's 'acknowledged' his sexism, which means precisely nothing, because I sure as hell don't recall anything meaningful along those lines. Hell, even John McCain was savvy enough to step up and defend Hillary against that priest--whom this friend defended. And compared me to, except claiming I was 'violent'. Why do they think that insulting people is going to work?

There are other people going, "Oh, it's so petty of you not to vote for him just because of a little sexism." That's if they even admit it at all.

I don't think this is the only friend I'm going to lose over this, either. I've had people threaten that before and I'm like.....You know, politics rolls around once every four years.

This person was a friend, at least as close as you can get online. But, damn, when 'having perspective' means you have to love Obama, then no thanks.

Really? I am a Dixie Chicks fan. Since the bruhaha about Natalie actually speaking her mind, I've liked them even more. Bottom line is that it really wasn't about Natalie saying "bad things" about W, it was because she's a woman. Sound familiar? W. said she should just be nice and go back home. The song comes off really well in concert...especially when their are a lot of pissed off women in the crowd.
Did you know that their lives and the lives of their children were threatened because they spoke out against W?

I'm sorry you feel like you are not being heard; it's incredibly frustrating. For what it's worth, your primary vote won her your state, did it not?

I respect you for following the path you truly believe is right and not letting the actions of others dictate what you should believe in.

I do hope my political affiliations do not become a point of contention between us. Choosing a candidate that fits your values is a very intimate and personal thing, and, shit, isn't that the point of democracy?

Best of luck in wherever life is leading you these days :)

One of the things I have come to hope for in real friends is the willingness to disagree completely ... and respectfully. A true understanding of the fact that there are many facets to a question, and that disagreement over them does not automatically imply enmity.

I'm not surprised at W's words or the threats. On the other side of the coin, I am surprised there are people (W and those who threatened them) who believe that kind of behavior is in any way justifiable. People have lost the concept of human dignity.

It shouldn't be a point of contention between us. We just won't talk about it. :-)
