Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, LiveJournal...this song applies to all of them. I have gotten "friending" requests from some people and I've had the same reaction she had. "You are the same person who has acted like an ass to me face-to-face; why on EARTH would I want to connect with you online?!?!?" is my thought. I wonder what people like that are really thinking when they send the "friending" request.
As it happens, nearly all of my ex's is my FaceBook friend (and some of them are my LiveJournal friends, which is saying considerably more) but I had good break-ups most of the time.
Also, Facebook is NOT where my real life is. I am the most shallow, happy and industrious there that I can appear. Most of my Facebook friends are clients and I feel like I'm attending an office christmas party whenever I'm there.
That is a wise approach to Facebook. I walk the same line there, on MySpace, on Twitter, and in public entries here. Unlike when I first began blogging six years ago, the mask only comes off in tightly filtered posts and personal emails. I figure there's no sense in troubling trouble. :-)
That would explain why sometimes I see entries on my reading list with nothing in the entry: those are embedded videos that did not work with my browser for some reason! I'd wondered.
Are you using Mozilla? If so that might be it... although I just checked it out on IE too, to no avail. I wonder if it is something about the way we have our friends pages set up on lj... I might shoot a note to tech support at lj and see if they have encountered this. Thanks for the data!
