Sometimes you need to put down the photo magazines, stop obsessing over other people's awards and recognition, and make your own damn photos.

For this photo I used available light, that being the two 100W equivalent, full-spectrum CFLs in my uncovered ceiling light fixture. (My flash has 'tude. I shall perform an attitude adjustment on it this weekend.) With my 50mm/f1.8 lens and ISO 400, I was able to hand-hold the camera...rather, hand-hold the tripod I used to get more distance between myself and the lens. My right hand operated the cable release. The only editing I did in Lightroom 2.0 was spot removal, mild softening, and slight color adjustment.

This is a great photo! I love the contrast of how colorful you are in the foreground with that black and white photo in the background. I love the amount of light as well. And the composition is fun too. (I might also have a little bit of hair envy going on.)

I definitely have hair envy going on. Did you braid your locs, or have you started wearing braids? Those suit you down to the GROUND, woman. And did you know you look about eighteen in that pic?

Such a warm, friendly pic. The composition just reinforces the subject; this is someone who looks like just the person to spend a friendly afternoon with.

I braided my locs. I do that sometimes, when I want a change. Even better, my locs will be wavy when I take out the braids!

When I was 18 there was a lot less self-confidence in my gaze. And would you believe I had just finished smoothing out the creases under my eyes in Photostudio when your email arrived? :-D
