ladyofthelog has the distinction of knowing me since my earliest LJ-blogging days. (Ye gods: that has been over seven years on LJ for me!) We had never met in person, so you can imagine I was quite excited to find out she would be in NYC and wanted to meet me! We took advantage of the gorgeous weather to meet at The Cloisters Museum far uptown.

I genuinely enjoyed her company. We talked about our interests--she knows a lot about medieval art--and filled in some of the gaps between what we blog about and what we experience. During our conversation, I made photos of the museum. I'm very happy with how these came out; they are a far cry from the ones I did a couple of years ago with Rebbie (my 300D).

The next time ladyofthelog comes to NYC, there shall be more photos of her! I didn't want to scare her by stalking her with my lens on our first meeting. :-)

Every time I hear about the Cloisters I think about that book "Annie on My Mind" (have you read it?) Don't the two girls in that book meet there?

Not only is the book not outdated, a 2008 audiobook version can be purchased from Barnes & Noble's website for $15! I had never heard of this book before you mentioned it, but now I want very much to read it. It sounds like excellent YA fiction.

Well, it was kind of groundbreaking for its time, but it is also one of those books where at least some characters end up being "punished" for being gay (politically speaking) in a sense that one could argue is out-dated... (not that those things never happen, just that art shouldn't invariably portray them happening),

I thought it was a sweet lovestory though. I read it about 15 years ago and it meant a lot to my teenager self.

I'd like to go with you! As ladyofthelog discovered, I don't know much of anything about the artifacts, but I am happy to view them while someone more knowledgeable talks about what makes them special.

I like that picture of her a lot. I didn't even have to crop it or take additional shots; I knew I had her as soon as I pressed the shutter. That's happening a lot more, these days, and I like that.

this is not related to this post, so i apologize. i was wondering if you knew anything about the alex bay area of upstate new york. i realize that it's a ways away from syracuse, but i was hoping you had experience with the greater area, or could share some other anecdotal information.

i know that it's by a military base, is a small community and is active during tourist seasons, but i'm not really sure how it FEELS, so if you're familiar with it at all, i would love your feedback.
