Questions I Usually Have After Being Out in Public

1. Why do some people feel the need to be incredibly loud, particularly in closed spaces? We don't want to hear you calling your friends/family from down the subway platform or the other end of the subway car or across the hallway or three doors down or down the block. Which also leads me to ask...

2. If the person you are speaking to is standing right next to you and has hearing sharp enough for them to cop an attitude when I softly suck my teeth at y'all's loudness, why must you shout?

Some people have been around loud noises so much that they have lost part of their hearing, and do not realize how loud they are being. Others just get excited and don't mean anything by it, and will quiet down if asked politely. And some are simply rude and rowdy.

It's the rude and rowdy ones I was thinking of. See #2: if you can hear me quietly suck me teeth from half a subway car away, you are not hard of hearing. :-)

Awwww. :( Sometimes they're just not aware. Sometimes it's just being obnoxious. I know I'm louder than I should be sometimes, but I also have hearing issues. I've gotten better in the last 2 years.

I understand hearing issues being a problem. Most of the time, the people I encounter who are loud are probably not hearing-impaired, because it's a group of them who know how to whisper when they want to say something highly personal about themselves to the person sitting next to them.

I think people like to just let loose and do whatever the hell they want just because they feel entitled to do so and don't even think to do otherwise. Like taking up 2 parking spaces or yelling or not moving their bag from the seat next to them on the crowded subway.
