Sometimes I wonder if men who prefer "their" women in dangerously high heels and platforms have secret (or not-so-secret) control issues. After all, a woman in shoes like that isn't likely to be able to outrun you when you're being a jerk.

Hmm...

For some that may be true; the same could apply to dresses with extremely narrow or bulky hemlines, which restrict motion. I hate wearing something I couldn't fight in if I had to, even though my body is kind of a wreck. Only on rare occasions will I wear fussy garments, and my footwear HAS to be comfortable.

On the other hoof, some people probably just think those things look hot.

No doubt, though I admit to not understanding what at all is "hot" about seeing someone hobbled whom you supposedly care about as a fellow human being.

It also makes me ask why they think it is hot. Is it possible for them to simply like it without their liking it be due to perhaps a control issue they are not even consciously aware of?

Well, I happen to enjoy the female body as well as the male body. For me, the appeal of high heels is structural -- the shape of the calf when the foot is pointed, and the way it all emphasizes the long line of the legs. This is why I also fancy seamed stockings. My eyes follow the lines of flow, as in a painting. But that's just one thing I like; I'm equally intrigued by an athletic woman in hiking gear. I can also admire the aesthetic appeal of someone's body without having any interest in them personally -- plenty of people are physically attractive but not mentally attractive. What I enjoy as eye-candy and what I would enjoy as a partner have some but not total overlap.

There are probably different reasons why various people like high heels. Some women like them for the height. If it were safe for me, I'd probably be tempted by that on at least some occasions.

Hear hear...there is nothing quite like the female body. I like to gaze upon it, myself.

That said, I suppose I am too caught up in whether what one wears is functional to be able to enjoy the aesthetic appeal if it is not. Once I've established a garment is functional, I can then enjoy the sight of it on a body. If a garment is not functional, I don't find it fashionable.

For me the two are somewhat separate. I can't wear something unless it is comfortable, and preferably practical; but if it's on someone else who is okay with it, my range of appreciation is wider. I'm enough into art and photography that I like some things which are ridiculously impractical. Props, really, rather than ordinary clothes.

A former coworker of mine was very tall but still loved to wear high heels. I think for her it was the emphasis on the long line of the legs as you mentioned. I don't think she seemed as confident when she was wearing flats, sneakers or boots.

Yes...

What makes people feel confident, or even comfortable, variest greatly. I think that's a good thing.
