Knitting my first sock

Spiral Tube Socks, from Patons, Size 9/10
Yarn: Red Heart Ltd. Heart & Sole Spring Stripe (Super Fine), 70% wool, 30% nylon

This is my first time working with yarn so fine. It is also my first time knitting socks! I'm excited to see how these turn out.

I'm finally venturing forth out of the world of acrylic yarn and experimenting with other fibers. For example, I knit a washcloth last week out of 100% cotton. I'm so enjoying the sensation of working with something other than acrylic, I may be hard-pressed to go back.

Alas, the plastic bag I have been carrying this project in has seen better days. If I must carry my knitting with me, it may be time for me to invest in a proper cloth bag. I need it to be small enough to fit into my knapsack, though.

By the way, for all of you Ravelry fans out there, I am wlotus there, too.

Knitters are incredibly patient people, prepared to wait to see something come to fruition that they can clearly picture in their mind.

Knitting helps me exercise patience, as I am impatient by nature. :-) It also soothes me; the movement of the yarn through my fingers is a form of meditation for me.

Drawing, particularly fine shading, does the same for me. When I did some sewing recently I was surprised by the calm that accompanied the repetitive motions of threading the cotton through the fabric. This reminds me, when I get some time I have to perfect my miniature shoes...!

Awesome! I still have yet to finish my first pair of socks. I haven't knit in months. I lost the knit bug. Maybe due to all the dang drama I've been dealing with lately. I added you on Ravelry. :)

Drama has a way of shooing away the knit bug. :-( But if you sit down with it for a little while each day, you may find it helps calm you through the drama. That's why I'm making time for it: I'm noticing it gives me a break from feeling anxious about the future.

Yay socks! My last pair of socks were tiny tiny doll socks. That pretty much took care of my sock-knitting urge for a while.
I added you on Ravelry. Same username for me too.

That's beautifully coloured wool. The most complicated things I've knit in adulthood have been scarves or dishclothes.
