I create a new layer in my photo editing software (Arcsoft Photostudio X), enter the text on that layer, reduce the text's opacity to around 30%, position the text on the image, and save the whole thing as a .jpg file.
'bout as clear as mud, ain't it? :-) Let me know if you need help understanding it, and I'll try to make it clearer. It's a handy trick.
